Meet Maggie "Quiet Destroyer" Monaghan: One Of Our New Interns

Marketing-Internship-Bergen-County-NJ-Meet-MaggieI'm Maggie. I drink too much caffeine, Instagram often and quote a lot of movies. That pretty much sums up my life in one sentence.

In addition, I wear my sunglasses all the time, even when it’s not sunny. I believe that black is an essential part of every wardrobe and lip-gloss should always be accessible. I have a minor addiction to Netflix, which has recently gotten out of hand.

Where you can find me this summer is interning at The DSM Group as an inbound marketing intern. I found DSM just like any other millennial, Google. After researching the company and its internship program I knew I wanted to intern here. Before DSM, I had an internship with fashion. I thought that was what I wanted to pursue, but let me tell you, it is not as glamorous as "The Hills" made it out to be. I had dreams of being the next Carrie Bradshaw but I just wasn’t cut out for it.

I go to Rutgers University in New Brunswick and will be a senior this fall. I am a journalism major and a digital communication information minor. This internship with DSM combines both my major and my minor rolled up into one.

Recently, I've become addicted to Mad Men. To be quite honest I see a lot of similarities in what Sterling Cooper was doing in the 1960s and what DSM is doing in 2014. Both are on the forefront of technology and change. While the techniques are dramatically different, both are extremely innovative.

I chose DSM over another internship in fashion or public relations because I was drawn to the concept of inbound marketing. Before reading about inbound on the DSM website, I had no idea what inbound marketing was. Naturally, I googled it.

It was like a hallelujah moment for me. I felt angels singing above my head and I knew this was what something that interested me. I like the idea of using technology to promote an idea or a brand.

It's only my first week here at The DSM Group and I am enjoying it. The atmosphere and the people make it an amazing place to learn and grow. Everyone here is extremely helpful and willing to teach.

What I am looking forward to most this summer is learning from the people who work at the agency and taking what I've learned in the classroom and putting it to use in a real world setting. I have been in a classroom since kindergarten and there is only so much you can learn inside four walls. Being in an office setting, improving my writing, and understanding inbound marketing strategies is what I hope to gain during my summer here.
