February Marketing Ideas

February 2nd, Monday: Groundhog Day - When to start marketing: Monday, January 19th

If you don’t know the folklore of Groundhog Day here is it: if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow, then spring will come early. But, if it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and the winter weather will persist for six more weeks.

The anxiety can keep you at the edge of your seat, but it’s also a good way to get your customers excited for the changing of the seasons. Think of new product releases or consider hosting sales based on the results of the groundhog seeing his shadow or not. Getting involved with what your customers are doing is always a good idea.

February 1st, Sunday: Super Bowl XLIX - When to start marketing: Friday, January 16th

Football fans rejoice, Super Bowl has finally arrived. Whether your customers’ favorite teams made it into the Super Bowl or not, chances are they will be watching the game.

The commercials played during the Super Bowl are anticipated to be the best of the year, but they are also very expensive to get. Another idea may be to offer showings of the game, host a Super Bowl party, give away prizes or even hold sales. Join the hype and get business in on game day.

February 14th, Saturday: Valentine’s Day - When to start marketing: Sunday, February 1st

The middle of February is notorious for being a romantic time of year. If your company can swing new romantic product releases, that’s great! Otherwise, you can still reach your customer base by sending out an e-mail blast showing affection and gratitude for their loyal support. Everyone deserves a valentine to make them feel special!

People usually have President’s Day off from work, which is great news for you because that means many are out shopping. You can offer promotions, complimentary products or services, limited time sales and send out e-mails to customers to bring in more business for you and your company.

February 17th, Tuesday: Mardi Gras- When to start marketing: Friday, January 23rd

Mardi Gras is the last Tuesday before the first day of lent. French for “Fat Tuesday,” Mardi Gras is a fun time of year marked with beads, colors, food and daylong celebrations. If your customers can’t swing a trip to New Orleans, offer them a piece of Mardi Gras by handing out beads or decorating your store. Keep it fun, and your customers will have a great time.
