February 14th is just around the corner and you know what that means!
Valentine's Day calls for mushy couples making out in public while single people around the world eat chocolate and watch romantic comedies.
In the spirit of red hearts and roses, our marketing agency has put together a list of mobile apps just for couples. While you're feeding each other appetizers across the table, check out this list of apps that will take you closer to Jay-Z and Beyonce status.
Avocado is a well rounded app that offers private text and picture messaging as well as the ability to create lists to remember things like dates, vacations, and birthdays. This app also allows couples to archive those tender little moments and milestones in a relationship.
Features
- Personalized "photocons" - real life emoticons using your face instead of the yellow guy
- Save pre-written notes to be accessed and shared easily like, "I love you" or "be home soon"
- Share things on twitter as a couple
- The web version gives users a full helpful archive
Why We Love It
- The odd name, that in reality makes perfect sense. Avocados only grow in pairs and the trees only grow when they are next to other avocado trees, fun fact for you all.
- This app has many of the great features that make up a lot of the other couple apps on the market
- Visually appealing interface
What It's Missing
Avocado really isn't missing anything. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to navigate and use with your boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, or other partners. We highly recommend this app if you haven't checked it out already. Note: No avocados were harmed in the creation of this app!
Couple
This Photo is Courtesy of Apple
This app allows you to stay obsessively close to your partner when you're not together. Like Avocado, this app allows you to text, picture, and video message. Couple kicks it up a notch by providing a "draw together" feature too.
Features
- Draw together, because nothing says love like drawing a puppy whilst on different coasts
- Thumbkiss allows you to "touch" the other person by placing your finger on the same part of the screen. The phone will light up and vibrate when your fingers have touched the same place of the screen
- GPS allows you to let the other know where you are at all times (or never, if you'd rather have your privacy)
- Create to-do lists together so you can passively nag your love
Why We Love It
- Couple provides a lot of different options to stay connected with your better half
- Has all of the same features as Avocado with added bonus of the Thumbkiss feature
- Again, this app has a nice looking interface that is easy to navigate
What It’s Missing
Couple has all of the basic necessities for a functional couple app. Unfortunately, the GPS feature may make some commitment phoebes weary. The DSM Group couple app (currently still being tested, but hopefully coming soon to a smartphone near you) would make the GPS feature into a game. For example, if you can guess where your partner goes every Thursday night after work until 3AM, you get relationship points!
Kahnoodle
Features
- When your other half does something nice (finally), give them kudos and it will increase the points in their "love tank"
- Text message and send pictures to one another when you're not busy collecting points
- Receive "koupons" when you've filled you love tank
- Get local deals for your next date night
Why We Love It
- Nothing like having documented proof that you did something nice for the old ball and chain
- The game aspect of Kahnoodle provides more incentive for the couple to interact, unless you hate games, then this app is not for you.
What It's Missing
Kahnoodle is quite different from all other couple apps out there. It is a fresh idea and a fun way to engage participation. Whether or not it actually rekindles the flame in your relationship, we're not sure. Unfortunately, this app doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles like Avocado and Couple, but it does offer you a way to indirectly tell your partner what you want, which can be fun!
Feel Me
Features
- This app allows you to see where your partner is touching their phone screen
- If you touch the same spot of your phone screen simultaneously, your phone will light up and vibrate (shocking, isn't it?)
Why We Love It
- It's a creative way to stay connected
- You can let a loved one know you're there even if you're miles away
- This takes the ridiculous things that couples do to a whole new level
What It's Missing
We must admit, Feel Me is pretty cool. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for it to become fully available to the public. It would be nice if Feel Me incorporated more features though. Maybe The DSM Group couple app will include similar technology that allows you to play games like finger charades, (Can you guess what animal I'm drawing?) If you want to be one of the first to get the app when it releases, sign up for their email.
Stay engaged with one another by using IceBreak. Get to know your partner by asking each other questions when you're apart.
Features
- This is a more interesting way for new couples to get to know more about each other
- Share pictures and other "coupley" things with each other too
Why We Love It
- You and your partner don't have to be face-to-face in order to share fun facts, it's like you're on a never ending date.
- Allows couples to share text and pictures like the other couple apps
What It's Missing
This may not appeal to those who have been together for eons and don't feel like finding out what their partners favorite Disney movie is. This app would benefit from more features. A quiz feature using the questions that your partner has already answered would add extra incentive to actually remember the answers to the questions. Just beware of the potential fights that may occur from bad quiz scores.
Why We Love It
- Love Maps keeps track of those little tidbits that usually get lost in translation
- Having a record of the things that make your partner happy will come in handy, don't you think?
What It's Missing
This app would benefit from a more well-rounded array of features. Although it keeps track of the "important stuff," it lacks the basic functions of the other great couple apps like Avocado and Couple. We would want Love Maps to have fun messaging features as well as the ability to remember the day your partner got a (long overdue) promotion at work.
Features
- A no-fuss calendar that you can share with your partner in crime
- The calendar automatically links with your other accounts like Google and Yahoo (magic!)
- Easily make plans with one another without forgetting about diner plans with your in-laws
- List making feature is great for the excessive list maker in your relationship
Why We Love It
- Simplicity, Simply Us keeps everything neat and organized for you and your partner
- If you're not into all the fancy business that many of the other apps provide, this is the app for you
What It's Missing
Simply Us makes it easy for couples or even friends to stay on the same page. Let's give a round of applause for Simply Us for keeping things simple and not trying to bombard us with emojis, thumbkissing, and picture filters. Nicely done!
What It's Missing
We are all shocked at how long the Snap Chat craze has lasted. Although it is not an app strictly for couples, it can be. We believe it was originally created for a different purpose, but we are not suggesting you use it that way (unless you want to, then knock yourself out!) Friends and couples still enjoy using Snap Chat and until they don't, we will include it on this list.
So there you have it. If you are looking to stay virtually connected to your partner in crime, these are the apps for you. Of course there are plenty of other apps to download, but this selection is the equivalent to the luxury cars in the lot of pre-owned clunkers. Have fun and Happy Valentine's Day!
