Meet Nicolette "Pizza" Bussanich: One of Our New Interns

Marketing-Internship-Bergen-County-NicoletteMy name is Nicolette and I am one of the new interns here at The DSM Group! So far, each of my fellow interns have crazy nicknames besides me, but something that my coworkers do not know yet is that all of my friends refer to me as “Buss,” (short for my Croatian last name, Bussanich). I recently caught the travel bug after studying in Barcelona, Spain for four months so now all I can think about is my desire to backpack through Europe and the possibility of moving back to Barcelona one day.

I am embarking on my senior year at Quinnipiac University located in Hamden, CT and intend on graduating in May of 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations. I am pretty involved at QU, being that I am a sister of Kappa Alpha Theta, the VP of Media Relations in a student-run club called Quinni PR, and a member of the PRSSA. In my spare time I enjoy working out, going to the beach, stalking celebrities on Instagram and eating lots of ice cream. My parents call me a shopaholic but I say that it's not an addiction, it's a lifestyle.

Oh, I am also slightly obsessed with my two dogs and take way too many selfies with them.

I accidentally stumbled upon the DSM Group during my last few weeks abroad, when I was forcing myself to come to terms with the fact that I was going home and needed something to do with myself for the long summer ahead. Naturally, I went to Google and started searching for public relations and marketing firms in Northern New Jersey.

I applied to an abundance of companies ranging from small firms to huge corporate conglomerates in the city, but The DSM Group was the only one that stood out to me. DSM Group provided me with the opportunity to put both my PR major and general business minor to work in one fast-paced setting. There are lots of reasons I ended up choosing to intern here but the atmosphere in the office and the go-getter attitudes of the employees are what sold me...and the fact that they have cute dogs that run around the office didn't hurt. This place is totally my kind of scene.

It is only my first week here but I have to say that I truly love it so far. I already feel comfortable and can totally be myself around my coworkers, which is a pretty encouraging feeling. I will not be "that intern" bringing coffee to my superiors or picking up their dry-cleaning, but will actually be completing tasks that have an effect on the overall success of the company. Over the next few months, I am looking forward to taking on challenging new ventures and learning useful, real life marketing techniques and strategies that schools are simply not teaching.

I am also looking forward to coming back in September when I am of legal drinking age, so I can get a taste of the famous beer on tap in the back of the office.
